Program Summary
This conference will address the role of counseling in speech-language pathology, provide a model for integrating counseling into assessment and treatment, teach skills necessary for effective counseling, as well as provide information on how to ameliorate clinician bias to make therapy more individual, equitable, and inclusive.

Who Should Attend?
This program is appropriate for audiologists, speech language pathologists, behavioral analysts, teachers, students enrolled in a speech language pathology program, and other individuals who are interested in and/or are currently working with patients who have communication and/or feeding needs.

Biographies
Cari M. Tellis, Ph.D. is a certified speech-language pathologist and a Full Professor in the Speech-Language Pathology Department at Misericordia University in Dallas, PA. Her areas of specialization, teaching, and research include the treatment of voice disorders, voice and speech science, motor learning and counseling. She co-authored the textbook, “Counseling and Interviewing in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology” and has presented at national and international conferences on the topic. Dr. Tellis and her co-author, Orlando Barone, created the Responsive Listening, Solution-Cycle and the Counseling-Integration Matrix, two useful models to guide clinicians in how to utilize effective counseling strategies in the evaluation and treatment process for all clients. Dr. Tellis developed the counseling curriculum at Misericordia University and has taught the counseling course for almost 20 years. Dr. Tellis utilizes historical
and modern therapy techniques, such as, Internal Family Systems, Compassionate Communication, Reducing Shames and Stigma, Emotional Intelligence, as well as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in her model of counseling.

Orlando R. Barone, M.S, has designed, developed, and delivered internationally acclaimed training in selfpresentation and interpersonal effectiveness for over 30 years. He is an executive leadership coach and instructor at The Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania and a negotiation consultant at the Harvard School of Public Health. His clients include organizations as diverse as global pharmaceutical firms, world-class computer companies and the United States Navy. Lonnie is an author, playwright, and poet. He has co-authored the textbook, “Counseling and Interviewing in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology” and has presented at national and international conferences on the topic. Lonnie has written extensively on interpersonal effectiveness and has coached top executives in the effective use of voice and gesture through the Intensive Coaching method and the video-assisted programs he originated. Lonnie stands out in his coaching approach as he includes utilizes historical and modern therapy techniques, such as, Responsive Listening, Internal Family Systems, Compassionate Communication, Reducing Shames and Stigma, Emotional Intelligence, as well as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in his coaching model.

In conjunction with the professional conference, West Chester University and NSSLHA are offering conference participants access to area employers. Participants will have the opportunity to speak with companies that are seeking to hire area professionals. The support and participation of these companies help subsidize the cost of the conference and are the primary reason for the reduced registration fee. Inclusion of these companies, however, does not imply endorsement from West Chester University or NSSLHA.

ACT48 Credits
PSHA is an approved provider by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to sponsor Continuing Education programs as required by ACT 48. The program is offered for up to 6.5 clock hours. Individuals attending the program must arrive on time and stay the duration of the corresponding time frame of program in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours.
