West Chester University of Pennsylvania is delighted to host the spring Delaware Valley Career Planners meeting on Monday, May 19, 2014.

The event will take place in the Sykes Student Union (GPS: 110 West Rosedale Avenue, West Chester, PA 19383 – parking in rear of building).

- Pre-registration is required. The deadline to register is Thursday, May 15.

- The cost per attendee is $35.

If paying by check please note: on the website it will appear as a $0 ticket; please select the quantity of tickets needed and mail in the appropriate check amount ($35 per person). Check made payable to West Chester University; mail to Conference Services, 13/15 University Ave. West Chester University, West Chester, PA 19383.

Because we did not provide advance notice, we will honor cancellations with a full refund through May 15. If you are unable to attend the day of the event without advance cancellation, we will not be able to process a refund due to catering and administrative costs.

8:30-9:45 AM: Continental Breakfast and Check-in, Sykes Ballroom A
Please check-in in the Sykes Student Union Lobby then network with colleagues over breakfast prior to our welcome address.

9:45 AM: Welcome by President Greg Weisenstein, Sykes Ballrooms B/C

10:00 AM: Dr. William Lalicker, Professor of English, Sykes Ballrooms B/C
From Service Learning to Career Development: The Impact of Curriculum-Based Experiential Opportunities
With our students wanting to have a greater impact on their communities and experiential education becoming ever-more important, Bill Lalicker will discuss how service learning can be used as a tool for helping students explore careers and develop professional skills. As a Faculty Associate for WCU’s Office of Service Learning and Volunteer Programs, Bill will highlight students’ experiences and share how curriculum-based service learning has become an integral part of students’ career development.

11:15 AM: Best Practices Round Table Discussions
Based on feedback from the January meeting, the following were selected to enable individuals to have conversations around topics of interest. You will have the opportunity to participate in TWO discussions.  If you have a best practice in one of these areas, bring your ideas or materials to share.

• Assessment, Learning Outcomes, and Data Analysis
• Creative and Cost Effective Career Events
• Partnerships with Advancement & Alumni Relations

12:30 PM: Networking Lunch

1:30 PM: Dr. James Capolupo, Springfield School District, Sykes Theater
A Superintendent’s Perspective on Education Students’ Job Search
Jim Capolupo will talk about what it is like to be on both sides of the job search process, particularly focusing on Education students.  He will review how he applied and was rejected for jobs along his career and his perceptions of how candidates are going through todays’ job search process.  This session will be extremely interactive and will include some “Freeze Frame” on the spot interviews to help bring out some of the issues with the “fear” of the interview notions that exist.
