“Acquiring knowledge, deepening our wisdom, and protecting our human and civil rights . . .
sustains our desire to learn. We use that knowledge to affirm our own self-esteem and to live
with dignity. . . . we have not finished answering the question . . . whom do we consider to be
“our people?’. . . perhaps more answers will come when we seek out other communities
to understand with whom to unite.”

(Latino Politics in America, John A. García, 2012: 163, 183).

With García’s call to action in mind, at this conference we intend to explore together the multiple meanings of “alliances,” “community,” and human dignity. The theme this year is inspired by those who embrace the challenges of cross-cultural learning and living, to build alliances that respect differences, while working together to create a more just and equitable world.

This interdisciplinary conference provides a creative space to enhance the understanding of Latino/a issues, contributions and culture by encouraging academics, practitioners, teachers,  alumni, faculty and students alike to present and engage in the discussions and debates on, for and with Latino/a Communities and their neighbors. Papers, posters, workshops, panels, or presentations welcome.

There are five “tracks” in the conference:

  1. Language, Cultures, History and Humanities.
  2. Education and English Language Learning (ELL) .
  3.  Health, Social Services, and Justice System Issues
  4. Politics, Economics, and Society
  5. Professional Development and Entrepreneurship

Five conference tracks will be offered. This conference is free and open to the public. Additional fees apply if you stay for lunch or desire continuing education credits.
