Understanding the Legal Aspects of a Students’ FAPE for Charter School Teachers/School Leaders

Conference Organizer:

Dr. York Williams, Associate Professor of Special Education, Department of Special Education, at West Chester University

Overview

The purpose of this conference is to provide local charter schools who are their own Local Education Associations (“LEA”) with the legal, instructional and pedagogical framework necessary to address their students’ needs across special education and section 504. Research confirms that charter and cyber schools alike confront unique challenges at providing a Free Appropriate Public Education (“FAPE”) for students that are typically not the same types of obstacles that traditional public school special educator’s encounter while providing a FAPE for students. School teacher professional development and school leadership Act 48, PIL and CLE credits for special education lawyers will be provided through this conference.

Teachers and School Leaders will be able to take up to four seminars that:

Identify the legal aspects of providing a FAPE in a charter and cyber school environment.
